Dr Tanya Yuen completed her medical degree in University of Western Australia in 2000, and her general practitioner training in 2006.  Since then, she has been working as a general practitioner in Belmont with interests in mental health, children’s health, women’s health, and refuge health.  She also has experience in working at a refugee clinic, homeless shelter and rehabilitation centre.

Throughout her career, she is passionate in empowering and equipping her patients with knowledge to improve their health and wellbeing.  She has found it rewarding to see patient’s health optimised through lifestyle intervention and natural therapy combined with her knowledge of conventional medicine.  She is a strong advocate of “prevention is better than cure”.

What is integrative medicine?

The practice of integrative medicine refers to the blending of conventional and evidence-based natural and complementary medicines and/or therapies with lifestyle interventions to deliver holistic, patient-centred care. The overarching aim of integrative medicine is to use the most appropriate, safe, ethical, and evidence-based modalities available, with a particular focus on prevention and lifestyle interventions. This practice is informed by evidence and patient preference and enables a broader range of therapeutic options and disciplines to be made available for patients to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.[1]

Special interest in integrative medicine

Dr Tanya Yuen has special interests in mental health, women’s health, gut health and preventative health.  She is also hoping to further her study in other areas including children’s health.
